Welcome to the UVA Congenital Cardiac Surgery website. UVA is the leading comprehensive center in the region for the the treatment of congenital heart disease. Our center provides care of the full spectrum of congenital cardiac lesions with results of these complicated repairs among the leaders in the country. Results for the Norwood procedure for hypoplastic left heart syndrome currently exceed 90%, as they have for the last three years. UVA is the only center providing cardiac transplantation for children in Virginia. We are also one of only four centers in the United States with clinical experience with the Berlin heart for heart failure in pediatric patients. Our ECMO support team also provides backup support for our most severe cases and thus rounds out one of the most complete cardiac support teams in the country.
